Lee Roy Selmon has a history that combines family scholarship football and community service. In the first place, he was raised by Lucious and Jessie Selmon on their Eufala farm as the youngest of nine children. Second football he was one of three brothers who were players for Oklahoma. All three brothers were All-Americans. The year was 1973. Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy was named the best offensive lineman in the United States by Outland Lombardi, Outland and the Outland Awards. In the three seasons he was the Oklahoma's starting line-up they went 32-1-1 and captured two championships. Selmon was given a second scholarship in 1975. He was also named as an National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon earned a bachelor's in education. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer hours per week during the course of his college. He settled down in Tampa following college. He played with the Buccaneers for 9 years and played three times in the all-pro league. The business venture he started began. In 1988, he was working as an Account Relation Manager at First Florida Bank in Tampa. He was employed with the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute and the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. So it's not surprising that In 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him one of the nation's the top 10 most promising young males. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in his height and weighed 256 lbs when he was a student athlete. He played for the 1975 team. He joined at the University of South Florida as associate director of athletics. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988. He was also named to the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 handed out the Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon, the governor of Oklahoma awarded it.
